Convey a sense of reality

Realism, in short, depicts reality as much as possible, as he sees it. In painting, the light, contrasts and a powerful painting are of great importance for the overall structure of the motifs. As a professional artist, he basically has the entire Nordic region as his field of work and can accept design assignments from both public and private actors. Roos is a trained graphic designer but later switched to oil painting.

Roo’s paintings are very elaborate before they are “released” for exhibition. He starts by sketching the motifs and then adds a color base with acrylic paint. Then continues to build up the image in several layers until he reaches a completion, when he feels that I can be satisfied with the composition and the coloring. Works alternately with brush, palette knife and black pencil, which you can see if you look closely at the structure of the painting. Finally, he puts on a so-called protective varnish, varnish.

As a little boy, Roos was very interested in drawing and painting, he was fortunate to sell his first pictures to his school teacher in the second grade, two pictures done in pastel colors.

The interest in drawing followed Roos throughout his primary school with top grades, while he was worse at maths and Swedish. The creative desire outweighed the more practical.

As a young man, Roos was greatly inspired by Carl Larsson and Bruno Liljefors. His father introduced him to Rembrent, who he then came to study a great deal. The training in Gothenburg to become a graphic artist or lithographer as it was then called took about three years.

After that he went to the then very well-known art school in The Hague, Hovedskous painting school, and remained there for about three years to come. There Roos met several comrades who, among other things, started a studio collective on Andra Låmnggatan. He has always devoted himself to visual art expression. However, in addition to realistic painting, he has experimented with expressionism.

Roos remembers how difficult it was to work with oil – finding the right colors etc. To become a really good visual artist it takes many years, having a basic education at the bottom is preferable.
